DOMINIC

Developmental Multi-Robot Systems in Cognitive Manufacturing

Project Overview

The DOMINIC project focuses on advancing cognitive manufacturing, transitioning from Industry 4.0 to the more human-centric Industry 5.0. In the context of high variety low volume production in Finland, the project addresses challenges in personalization and adaptability. Building on the AURORA project’s success in Industry 4.0, DOMINIC aims to refine solutions for Industry 5.0, addressing emerging variability and unpredictability.

Built on principles from developmental robotics, DOMINIC envisions an open-ended system that continuously learns and adapts, driven by active curiosity. The research question explores the design attributes for an autonomous manufacturing system interacting with humans, aiming for continuous improvement and intelligence augmentation.Through continuous evolution driven by operational history and feedback from human agents, our system remains responsive to dynamic changes.

Our aim is to advance cognitive manufacturing, transitioning to Industry 5.0, by developing a developmental autonomous production system that seamlessly integrates human creativity.
